When it comes to drawing characters, one of the best-kept secrets is using simple shapes and letters to guide your sketch—and today, I’m sharing one of my favorite pro tips: drawing with the letter H!

In this week’s featured lesson inside the Doodle Friends Art Club, we’re using the letter H as a starting framework to draw a playful character—a girl heading to the beach! 🏖️

Why the letter H? Because it’s the perfect visual guide for helping you place key features like the shoulders and waist. The two vertical lines create the body structure, and the horizontal crossbar shows where the shoulders or hips can go. This helps keep your proportions balanced while giving you room to add personality and style.

We’ll walk step-by-step through sketching the basic shape, adding accessories like sunglasses and a beach bag, and finishing with details that bring your character to life.
